Elementary Maple Field Trip

March 18, 2018

Pied Piper Maple Syrup Farm Field Trip March 19, 2018 10am-12pm, or March 26, 2018, 10am-12pm:

Hi everyone. I just wanted to give some details regarding our maple syrup trip this year.  Due to the limited availability of seats this trip will be broken into two days, Monday, March 19th, and Monday March 26th.  The details to both trips will be the same, I just do not have the ability to transport everyone at the same time.

I spent some time today talking with Mrs. Hamlin at the maple syrup farm.  She would like us to be in groups of 6 children each.  The first group will be going into the woods and seeing how the lines are tapped while the second group is sampling maple products and baking maple scones!  The groups will switch and do opposite tasks.

I will tell your child what groups you are in at the farm.  All families that will be transporting their children will be in tomorrow’s groups.  I will have 7 children that will stay at the school, but will do this field trip next Monday.  I will message the families for the children that are going next Monday.  Again, I wish I could take everyone at the same time, but we just do not have enough drivers.

When you go:  Please bring boots and warm clothing.  Tomorrow especially will be cold.  BRING A BAG LUNCH!  We most likely will be eating lunch at the farm.  I know that it says on the permission slip that we will be back in time for lunch, but I just am not sure of that.

Directions:  If you are not following me from the school, the easiest way to get there is to travel down the east side of Otisco Lake on Otisco Valley Rd.  Follow the lake to the end then turn right onto Sawmill Rd.  There is a big red barn at the corner with antiques for sale at the corner.  Follow Sawmill Rd until it is nearing the end.  You will see West Valley Rd on your right.

If you are following a GPS that takes you East Lake Rd. in Skaneateles down “Church Hill Rd” from Stanton, be aware that it is seasonal and not open right now.  If your GPS takes you down East Lake Rd. in Skaneateles to Moon Hill Rd, that road will say “Road Closed Ahead” but it is passible.  At the end of the road just part of the road has a barrier that can be passed.

We will meet at Pied Piper Maple Syrup Farm at 10am!  I will be leaving the school at 9:15am for those who are following me. See you all there!
