Opportunities for Parent Involvement

With a goal toward creating strong, lasting bonds between friends, families, and teachers, parents are encouraged to attend Orientation, Open House Events, Field Trips, and Parent/Teacher Conferences and to participate in the classroom. Two conferences per year are held in lieu of sending home grade reports, and parents are strongly encouraged to attend conferences to discuss the progress of their child, curriculum, tools, etc.
Between conferences, parents are encouraged to address issues and concerns directly with their child’s teacher and the director of the school, Gilda Brower, as soon as these issues and concerns become apparent. An informative newsletter updates children and parents on field trips, fundraising events, and curriculum. Homework packets, special notices, and completed work are deposited in children’s backpacks; parents are encouraged to check backpacks on a daily basis in order to remain informed of events and progress.
Parents will receive “Tomorrow’s Child,” a magazine published by the Montessori Foundation. The magazine is full of articles written to address education at home and at school and to give insight into the workings of a Montessori classroom. A Parent Education Library lends reading materials and videotapes to parents interested in learning more about the Montessori philosophy and methods.
Goals of the
Montessori Method
With an eye toward the development of a competent, self-assured, independent, and caring adult, the Montessori method aims to:
  • Foster natural curiosity and a positive attitude toward school
  • Develop each child's self-confidence and habits of initiative, concentration, and persistence
  • Nurture inner security and a sense of order
